St. Lucie County Fair, FL 2019 Pirate Cluster hosted by the Treasure Coast Kennel Club (TCKC). Only in it's second year, the "Pirate Cluster" has grown to be one of the South Easts most popular events and this year Christine Segedin returned as the cluster host with a dream team of only six to manage over a hundred volunteers, dozens of vendors and multiple organizations required for such a combined show of this sort. Barn Hunt
Barn Hunt is committed to creating a safe and fun sport for dogs, that also holds rat care at the highest level of consideration. The rats used in Barn Hunt are beloved family pets. They jump eagerly into their safe, comfortable aerated tubes and truly enjoy interacting with the dogs. (BHA)
One of the most popular dog sports in decades to emerge has been the Barn Hunt. Thousands around N. America and beyond have discovered this incredibly fun game for all breeds.
For many dogs, this game is as natural as chasing a tennis ball and with clubs across Florida, access to the sport is growing by leaps and bounds.
“Rat Catchers” have been critical in the history of mankind. Both protecting humans and livestock from disease in both rural and urban settings. However, the rats in this case are carefully protected in shielded tubes and as loved by their owner as the dogs.
Barn Hunt tests the nose, speed, agility, and surefootedness of dogs that have a history of above-ground vermin hunting,” - Robin Nuttall, founder of the Barn Hunt Association
With categories to reflect and include teams of every skill level, Barn Hunt also incorporates various “games” to provide a challenge and entertainment to handler and dog alike. Tailwaggers Learning Center hosted this part of the Cluster and was so popular it was the last to finish late on Sunday. The club started in 1994 and has 80+ regular members and almost ten times as many online on Facebook. Based West Palm Beach, with classes and events in Agility and Obedience, and obviously Barn Hunt too.

Barn Hunt is easily one of the most welcoming games for those with special needs or disabilities. All of the organizers we have spoken to to, from founder Robin Nuttall to local clubs have been eager and to point out that the game is for everyone. There can be complications with certain courses, but we have seen time and again a willingness to accommodate the game for all dogs and humans alike.

Barn Hunt takes the inherit drive of dogs to hunt out things and combines it with a fun focused and very safe game. The simplicity of the concept hides the incredible work and passion organizers have for both the sport and the community. There's a deep sense of camaraderie and the doors is always open!
